Jean-Jacques will work especially on rhythms in the body and in the
voice, orchestration of the spoken and chanted word and of naturalistic
texts. He will also explore how rhythm and music relates to text in

A Voice & Text Workshop for Movement Based Performers
With Winnipeg Director/coach B. Pat Burns
ACTRA/EACA, Chair of training ACTRA Manitoba
The purpose of the weekend workshop is to give movement based performers
such as modern dancers or physically orientated performers the tools to
add or strengthen the vocal dynamic to their work in a natural and
unforced manner and to apply it in the workshop. Adventurous actors
will find this visceral approach to voice and text stimulating.
Mr. Burn's process of working with performers of all disciplines is to
create a safe judgment free environment. The philosophy is that even the
most experienced of performer is still "a diamond in the rough" in
relationship to their ultimate potential. "You are where you are. Now
lets see how far we can take you, and how much fun we can have getting
you there!" With this in mind, the course is designed to allow the most
attention from the instructor possible. The maximum number of
participants is 10.
WHAT YOU WILL GET
A basic warm up routine which covers all of the best techniques for
handling text: voice production, articulation, timbre and most
importantly connecting the voice to the movement naturally.
Specific, individualized exercises to help you strengthen any areas that
may need addressing to allow you to continue to go forward in your work.
Internal Universe Strategies for connecting the voice and text with your
physical movement. These include all the standard techniques commonly
used by professional actors as well as many developed specifically to
aid dancers.
The goal is to heighten the performer's awareness of the symbiotic
nature of text and movement, so that they can integrate text into their
creative process with greater ease.
THE BEST PART - a chance to try all of this new stuff out in front of a
group of friendly supportive peers.
Perquisites: Some training in acting, dance or other performance
discipline. An open mind, an adventurous spirit and the willingness to
learn and be supportive to other participants.
Dates: September 18th and 19th. 2004.
Times: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. each day.
Cost: $175.00
Equity Members: $125.00
To reserve your spot please contact Sharon Moore at 416 406-3133 or
