JOB - DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION - TORONTO
--------------------------------------------------------
Soulpepper is seeking a Director of Education, reporting directly to the Artistic Director, who will play a leadership role in helping the organization enhance its position as one of the pre-eminent performing arts organizations in Canada.

THE ORGANIZATION
The Soulpepper Theatre Company (www.soulpepper.ca) was founded in 1998 by twelve actors dedicated to enriching the cultural fabric of Toronto by creating its first classical repertory company. Under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Albert Schultz, Artistic Director, Soulpepper set out an ambitious and unique three-tiered mandate:

1.	To present vital Canadian interpretations of history's greatest plays.
2.	To train the next generation of theatre artists.
3.	To inspire and enlighten our youth through outreach and mentorship programs.

In seven summer seasons at the Harbourfront Centre, Soulpepper has achieved popular and critical acclaim and has become one of the largest not-for-profit theatre companies in the city.

Building on its success, Soulpepper recently entered into a joint venture with George Brown College to build Canada's leading training, presentation, and education facility for the performing arts- The Young Centre for the Performing Arts. It is located in Toronto's vibrant new artistic community, the Distillery Historic District. With lead funding in place from private and public sources for the $12 million complex, construction commenced in the summer of 2004, with the completion date set for the fall of 2005.

Under one roof, Soulpepper will be able to make greater strides to achieving its mandate. This will entail a significant change for the company as it moves to a full-year performance season. It will be the main objective of the Director of Education to help fulfill items 2 and 3 of the mandate, with increased youth outreach programs and the establishment of the Soulpepper Academy as the company moves forward in the Young Centre.
