Assistant Professor - Dramatic Arts Acting and Voice

Responsibilities
Brock University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment
teaching Acting and Voice in the Department of Dramatic Arts (DART),
beginning July 01, 2006. This position is subject to budgetary approval
and
is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess an MFA specializing in Voice and Acting,
demonstrate excellence in teaching at the post secondary level and have
substantial accomplishments in creative research. This appointment will
teach second and third year acting courses, supervise students in
productions such as the Spring Arts Festival and may be asked to direct
or
participate in main stage production. The preferred candidate should
have
broad experience in the practice of theatre in professional and other
communities, and an interest in praxis, the integration of theory with
practice that characterizes our dynamic department. In addition,
expertise
in one or more of the following areas would be an asset: directing,
interdisciplinary performance, drama in education and society, mixed
media
performance, critical performance theory, a physical discipline such as
Yoga, Laban, martial arts practice or fight choreography.
DART offers a BA and a BA Honours in Theatre, Dramatic Literature or
Drama
in Education and Society; a four-year BA in Theatre; a concurrent BA/B
Ed
and Co-op options in Drama in Education and Society, Theatre and
Dramatic
Literature. Further a Certificate in Drama in Education is offered. The
program currently has six tenured or tenure-track faculty, two full time
technical staff, and several part-time instructors drawn from education
and

Responsibilities
Brock University's Department of Dramatic Arts (DART) and Centre for
Great
Books/Liberal Studies (GBLS) invite applications for a tenure-track
cross-appointment at the rank of assistant professor in theatre history
before the twentieth century. In addition, expertise in one or more of
the
following areas would be an asset: directing theatre, cultural
criticism,
pedagogical innovation, drama in education and society, music, or the
visual arts.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a Ph.D. or be very close to completion at the
time
of application. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will teach courses such as DART 2F94, \"Theatre
as
Cultural Practice I,\" and GBLS 3P90, \"Great Books Seminar III: Power,
Reason and Imagination.\" The successful candidate will also demonstrate
substantial research accomplishments and be committed to playing a
dynamic
part in the collaborative development of interdisciplinary research and
teaching, in particular contributing to a new undergraduate liberal arts
program that is developing out of GBLS. DART offers courses in three
main
streams: Theatre, Dramatic Literature, and Drama in Education and
Society.
Candidates should have an interest in praxis, the integration of theory
with practice that characterizes DART. Courses in GBLS focus on the
classics of Western (and occasionally non-Western) literature, thought
and
art (covering the social and natural sciences as well as the humanities
and
fine arts), and emphasis is placed on reading and discussing primary
texts.
The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Dramatic
Arts
but will divide teaching responsibilities equally between DART and GBLS
and
should therefore feel comfortable working in both settings.
