4.CHUBBUCK TECHNIQUE - TORONTO
------------------------------------------------
Award-winning actor BENSON SIMMONDS studied with IVANA CHUBBUCK and has
become one of three teachers in Canada authorized by Ivana to teach her
amazing technique. For the past few years Benson has been coaching in
Montreal and Vancouver and is now coming to Toronto.
The technique is "all about scene analysis, knowing how to determine
what
the character wants and how he/she goes about winning their objective.
It
also involves using substitutions, people in your personal life who you
have
unresolved issues with, and fighting in your scene to get people from
your
real life to change." It is a grounded and direct technique that
develops
and expands prior use of "motivation."
The cost of the workshop is $275. The cost to Equity members is only
$220
(savings of 20%, or $55). Benson's upcoming Toronto workshop is Sunday
March
6 and Tuesday March 8, 2005. The workshop takes place over both days; if
you
are available for only one day, call about auditing.
For information and to RESERVE A SPOT (the earlier the better!) please
call
Benson's assistant, Jaya at (416) 651-3488. Information on the Chubbuck
technique can be found at http://www.ivanachubbuck.com. You can reach

# 1528 The Craft of On-Camera Acting
Sat & Sun 10 am- 6 pm
Feb 19-20
CAEA $220 Non-CAEA $275
Deadline for application: Feb 10
Beg/Int
This is an intensive two-day workshop in the 'craft' of on-camera acting
for the enthused novice as well as the theatrically-trained actor who is
making the transition from the stage to screen. Working from prepared
monologues, actors are taken through a series of exercises that will
help further develop their abilities to synchronize body and mind, the
psychological and the physical, thus enabling them to 'get under the
written text'. These internal processes are stressed simultaneously with
the external demands so that the actor will develop his/her 'craft',
that being the relationship with the camera/lights/frame as well as the
physical dexterity to modulate the volume of their performance for the
given perimeters. The difference between theatrical acting and on-camera
'behaviour' is explored and strongly emphasized.
