Sat & Sun 10 am- 6 pm
July 30- 31
CAEA $200 Non-CAEA $250
EXTENDED Deadline for application: Thurs, July 21
The field of dramatic combat, once dominated by scenes of male violence,
is opening up its ranks! In the past, female actors have primarily been
limited to playing victims in staged violence. We are now seeing an
increase in productions that offer women a chance to fight back and even
assume the role of the fighting hero. This two-day course covers unarmed
techniques and basic swordplay for both theatrical and film settings.
The workshop format allows actors to explore playing the victim and the
hero in staged confrontations. Actors are taught safe and effective
techniques that can be utilized in scenes involving violence.

of American dramatists. Areas to be explored include: discovering the
playwright's intentions; "Character" choices vs. "Actor" choices;
understanding and appreciating the emotional power of the scene; finding
the physical, emotional, and verbal freedom to embody the character and
SIMPLICITY (essential for acting in theatre, film or television).
American playwrights that may be used in this class include: Tennessee
Williams, Arthur Miller, Lillian Hellman, Clifford Odets, and William
Inge. Participants will be assigned scene partners on the first day.
Rehearsal outside class time is essential.

3. BOUFFON WORKSHOP - OTTAWA
--------------------------------------------
This September, Adam Lazarus is offering Ottawa an intensive exploration
of the Bouffon clown.
This workshop is for both professional and beginning artists interested
in using performance to poke fun at social norms, or to simply overcome
performance inhibitions.
Working in the tradition of French Bouffon/Clown Master Philippe
Gaulier, the workshop begins with the study of Jeu - a French
performance style that encourages a sense of play. Through Jeu, you will
rediscover your mental and physical agility, sensitivity, stillness and
complicity in a group. By building your skills in improvisation,
instinct, song, dance, and most of all, audience awareness, your own
method of satire will emerge. The class will then progress into building
Bouffon characters and turns, with daily work on building spatial and
bodily awareness.
WORKSHOP DETAILS
Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 18th, 2005 - 12pm-5pm
Tuesday, September 20th to Friday September 23rd, 2005 - 6:30pm-10:30pm
$375 ($300 for CAEA/CADA/ACTRA/previous students) Location TBA
