Want to make those auditions really unforgettable? Want to gain some
understanding of how manipulation of props and use of economic gestures
can make a performance truly memorable. Learn how sitting on a chair can
give you more potential for movement than standing. Understanding what
'reads' and doesn't on stage, how to use props to their fullest effect,
how to begin an audition with style and finish with flourish are all
part of this journey through onstage skills. We'll spend time on period
as well as modern material. Work on audition pieces welcomed. Only
requirements are your actors imagination and the bringing of necessary
props and costumes.

The emotional power of Shakespeare's language and the visceral
connection between the actor and those words will be the focus of this
class. Monologues and scenes will both be used to explore text, nuance
of language, rhythm, and verse as they affect character and the world of
the play. Finding a personal connection between actor and character
will also be investigated. Participants will be expected to do a
significant amount of preparation and rehearsal outside of class time.
# 1523 Intro to Clown with Mike Kennard
Fri 7- 10 pm, Sat 10 am- 6 pm &
Sun 12- 5 pm
Apr 8- 10
CAEA $240 Non-CAEA $300
Deadline for application: Mar 31
Beginner
This is an introductory workshop based on the Pochinko technique.
Students begin with a focus on listening. Games and exercises are used
to awaken and encourage a sense of pleasure, an awareness of one's
immediate environment and an honest response to internal impulses and
external events. Students are then introduced to the clown world, where
they will wear noses and hats to help discover their clown. An
individual and group playground is created where the clown explores its
physicality, innocence and experience, extremes and normalcies. The
course culminates with students creating and presenting a short
individual clown piece.
