Theatre Alberta presents Dramaworks - Theatre Workshops for People who
Love Theatre!
Running July 7-18, 2005 at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Dramaworks
offers a unique opportunity for professional development and networking,
and provides a well-deserved theatre retreat!
Destination Acting- James MacDonald will take the experienced actor
through five diverse periods of theatrical history, exploring language,
movement and worldviews of period and modern plays.
Destination Directing- Stephen Heatley will examine both well-used
strategies that work across the board and unique skills for unique
styles. This crash course will use a wide range of script materials from
the Greeks to Tremblay!
Writing your first play or creating a brand new solo show? Seize the
Play! with Vern Thiessen is a workshop that will explore the basics of
playwriting and help you write your very own short play in 48 hours!
Have you written a first draft of a play and you're not quite sure what
to do next? The Next Draft with Conni Massing offers a unique
opportunity for specific feedback on your latest masterpiece!
Branch out into other areas of the theatre with workshops in Sound
Design, Props and Special Effects, and Choreography!

A workshop for experienced actors. Over the 8 sessions, we will dig into
scenes from great modern writers (both Canadian and International). The
workshop will explore diverse styles of contemporary writing -
everything from Mamet to Albee, Neil LaBute to Caryl Churchill, Adam
Pettle to Judith Thompson. This is not a "How to Act" Class.

The audition: the place where, in a totally artificial environment, the
actor must create the role and the opportunity of the job all by
themselves. This intensive is designed to give you practical, solid

INCLUDE: picture/resume of the applicant, letter of interest describing
the project they would like to work on (if applicable), pictures/resumes
of any actors/collaborators already associated with the project (if
applicable). This course is limited to SIX Directors
Instructor, Chris Abraham, will guide intermediate level directors
through the rehearsal process. Using projects brought in by the
directors or scenes selected by the instructor, the instructor will
coach the directors on script analysis, thematic concerns and
communication with professional actors. This course is well suited to
those with directing experience or professional actors/stage managers
making the transition to directing. An ideal course for those directing
in Fringe or Summerworks. This is not a course for beginners to the
theatre.

Instructor
Melee Hutton trained at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama
and has an MFA in Acting and a Graduate Diploma in the Teaching of
Acting from York University. As an actor she has played major roles in
the West End and for the Royal Court Theatre, and the National Theatre
of Great Britain in London England, as well as for Festival of Classics,
DVxT, Buddies in Bad Times, STC in Canada. She studied 'actions'
working with director Max Stafford-Clark in London, and has taught at
York University, The Royal Court International Summer School, and The
National Film and Television School in London.

In this workshop the doers develop the essential elements of organicity
that will give them the opportunity to confront themselves with their
body-life in the present-moment. Having unblocked the body, the flow of
emotions and feelings are organically free.
