EQUIFLASH - 2006 - 2009 Canadian Theatre Agreement ratified by the
Equity membership
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The 2006 - 2009 Canadian Theatre Agreement (CTA), recently negotiated
between Equity and the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres,
was ratified by the Equity membership in a ballot count held today.

Members voted overwhelmingly in support of the proposed changes.
Overall, the return rate on ballots mailed was 23%. A total of 95.7% of
the members who voted cast their vote in favour of the changes.

Thanks to Equity members Liza Balkan, Kerry Ann Doherty and Jillian
Rees-Brown who volunteered their time to count the ballots.

The new CTA will come into effect on August 21, 2006 and will end June
28, 2009. Financial conditions are effective now retroactive to June
26th, 2006, and all other terms will take effect from August 21 point
forward.

Copies of the new agreement will be available at EQUITYONLINE and in
hard copy as soon as printing allows.

A milestone achievement of the negotiations is new terms in the CTA
comprehensively addressing the engagement of children in theatre.

Minimum compensation in Sector 1 (not-for-profit Theatres) operating at
company categories A-D (including A+ and Shaw) minimum fees increase
2.25% in each year of the Agreement, and for the balance of Sector 1 by
2% per year. For all Sector 2 (commercial) Theatres, the minimum fees
increase by 3% in each year. Generally, all other monetary amounts
increase based upon 2% per year, for each year of the agreement, with
one rate applying during the term of the Agreement. TYA per diem rates
will increase by 14.25% over three years.
