JOB - ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - WHITEHORSE

Nakai Theatre in Whitehorse seeks an adventurous type to be its new
Artistic
Director.

Nakai Theatre develops new Yukon plays, playwrights and the theatre
community that supports them. As the only professional PACT theatre
North of
60, we also produce an annual children's theatre festival, a comedy/arts
Festival, and a bi-annual fringe-like new works festival. Our budget
hovers
around $300,000 with room for growth.

We seek an artist with a strong, demonstrated theatrical vision, a
passion
for developing new Canadian plays & nurturing emerging playwrights &
theatre
artists, national contacts, extensive knowledge of, & experience working
in,
Canadian theatre. Excellent written and oral communication skills,
relevant
post-secondary education or comparable experience, experience in arts
administration and management, plus the ability and patience to lead,
work
independently and collaborate under distinctive circumstances are musts.

Reporting jointly with the General Manager (GM) to Nakai's Board of
Directors, the Artistic Director is responsible for Nakai's overall
artistic
vision, direction and identity, play and playwright development work,
all
artistic endeavours (1- 2  plays per season, 2- 3 festivals and
ancillary
events), community relations, and advocacy.

This artist will work collaboratively with the GM, planning the
administrative direction, and successful operation of the company, its
shows, festivals and events. This includes season and long term
planning,
marketing and promotion, some fundraising, grant preparation and liaison
with associated funding agencies.
