Call for Submissions - Toronto Fringe Festival

IKE AND PEARL: A NEW CANADIAN MUSICAL

Music and Lyrics by Rob Kempson

Book and Lyrics by Vikki Van Sickle

Directed by Rachel Slaven

Presented by Palais Productions

Performance Dates: July 2 - 13, 2008.

Rehearsal Dates: middle of May to beginning of July, 2008.

Rural Ontario, 1908. Isaac Ferguson, poised to inherit the family farm,
falls in love with the vivacious Pearl Gray. When family obligations and
personal longing collide, Ike and Pearl must make a difficult decision,
one that will affect their lives and the lives of those around them for
years to come. Set to a contemporary score with folk, Celtic and hymnal
influences, IKE AND PEARL is a musical about love, loss, and family.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Ike Ferguson:   Male, late 20s-mid 30s. Charming and popular. Has
ambitions beyond farm life. High Baritone.

Robert Ferguson:   Male, 35-60.  Domineering patriarch, dedicated to the
farm above all else. Baritone.

Sarah Ferguson:   Female, 35-60. Gentle, passive, underappreciated wife
of Robert, mother to Ike and Ella. Alto.

Ella Ferguson:  Female, 18-30. Ike's younger sister. Stubborn, brassy, a
true farm girl. Mezzo.

Pearl Gray: Female, 18-30. Ike's love interest. Pretty, vivacious, and
optimistic.  Longs to be a writer and to travel. Soprano

Interested artists, please submit headshot and resume to
auditions at ikeandpearl.ca by Monday, April 14, 2008.  Artists selected
for an audition will be contacted by Wednesday, April 16th.

Auditions: Friday, April 18 - Saturday, April 19, 2008

Please prepare 1-2 minutes of a contemporary musical theatre song.  An
accompanist will be provided.  You will be asked to read a selection
from the text, which will be provided prior to your audition.

Callbacks: Sunday, April 20, 2008

Equity members participating in this production will be signed to a
Fringe agreement and all net proceeds from the production will be
divided equally among the participants.
