CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - TORONTO
------------------------------------------------------
Studio 180 Theatre is accepting submissions for David Harrower's
BLACKBIRD at the Berkeley Street Theatre Downstairs, Toronto, Ontario
(produced in association with The Canadian Stage Company).
Directed by Joel Greenberg
Rehearsals Begin: February 9, 2009
First Preview: March 9, 2009
Opening Night: March 12, 2009
End of Engagement: April 4, 2009
Role to be cast:
Ray
- 56 years old
- has served years in prison for having sex with a minor
- has changed his name as he struggles to resuscitate and repair his
life
The actor must bring a personal warmth and sympathy to the role, not to
apologize or soften the man and his responsibility, but to allow us to
listen to him and to draw us into a subject that is too complex to write
off in simple terms such as pedophilia or child abuse.
Please note that the role of Una has been cast.
Two reading copies of the script are available at the Metro Reference
Library Performing Arts Desk (Yonge & Bloor). The reading copy is the
same version produced in New York, 2007 - the Faber published version,
which is the original British script, differs from this more recent
version. Please note that no national or regional dialects will be
required for this production.
Auditions will be scheduled for late April-early May.
Please submit photo and resumes for consideration by Friday, April 18,
2008 to:
