JOB - HEAD OF WARDROBE - CHEMAINUS

Head of Wardrobe
The Chemainus Theatre Festival Society, located on Vancouver Island,
British Columbia, is currently accepting applications
for the position of Head of Wardrobe. The Company, working under the
Actors Equity Independent Theatre Agreement, produces six mainstage
shows and three productions for young audiences per year. This is a
full-time, permanent management position under the supervision of the
Production Manager, with the following duties:
General
Create, implement, and monitor detailed cost projections and
construction schedules relating to the realization of original
costume designs. This includes all aspects of design interpretation,
implementation, costume builds, purchases, or rentals, costume fittings,
construction labour allocation, and costume maintenance; Preside over
all matters relating to the efficient operation of a professional live
theatre costume studio.
Show Construction
Work closely with costume designers and directors to ensure that design
material/rental/purchase requirements and labour
needs are achievable within the allocated time, material, and labour
budgets; Coordinate the hiring of contractor services,
in-shop casual labour, and specialty services for costume builds;
Maintain our labour force of inspired and skilled
volunteers.
Show Maintenance
Create and maintain maintenance schedules; Supervise and participate in
the maintenance and repair of costumes, including wigs and hair, during
the run of a show; Oversee dry cleaning and laundry needs; Supervise the
load-in and strike of each show.
Training/Skills
Post-secondary degree in theatre arts related to costumes, or the
equivalent; 2-4 years experience involving professional
live theatre production; Advanced cutting, fitting, and sewing skills;
Pattern drafting, dying, and millinery skills an
asset; Drivers License necessary and personal vehicle a plus; working
proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Salary
Negotiable and commiserate with experience.
