Sudbury Theatre Centre Seeks Artistic Director
Sudbury Theatre Centre is Northeastern Ontario's only English,
not-for-profit Professional Regional Theatre with an annual budget of
$900,000. We produce a full season of 5 mainstage productions, 1 family
Christmas show, and a theatre for young audiences series from September
to May annually. All productions are staged in the fully equipped 287
seat proscenium theatre. The venue also offers a full fly-tower,
workshops, wardrobe, administrative offices and fully licenced lounge
located in the heart of downtown Sudbury, all under one roof.
The Artistic Director works closely with the General Manager and is
responsible to the Board of Directors. The position is responsible for
all artistic planning and will share responsibility for overall
management, including artistic production, fiscal stewardship, board and
community relations, fund-raising, education, and artistic development.
A strong connection with the theatre industry and industry professionals
is preferred.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
* Strategic short and long term artistic planning
* Selection of plays for our mainstage season and Theatre For
Young Audiences series
* Selection and management of our creative, stage management, and
production team members
* Oversee the youth drama classes and Students on Stage programs
* Assistance with the fundraising initiatives of the organization
* Collaborative budget development with the General Manager
* Active participation in board development and governance
* Work with the General Manager on Grant submissions to Federal,
Provincial and Municipal Governments
* Represent the theatre with the media and community by conducting
interviews or speaking at events.
* Budgeting productions and ensuring fiscal responsibility to
budgets.
The Search Committee seeks an artistic leader that will bring to the
role:
1 A strong record of artistic achievement in Theatre;
2 Experience working in a theatre with a responsibility for both
excellence in artistic production and financial results;
3 A range of experience that demonstrates a pro-active and
creative approach to engaging the community;
4 A high motivation to build and engage audiences for the Company,
combined with an informed perspective on audience trends and desires;
5 The ability to build effective working relationships with
artists, theatre industry colleagues, donors, board members, community
leaders and funding agencies;
6 A leadership approach that will create a positive, mutually
supportive working relationship between the artistic and administrative
sides of the company.
