THE MIDDLE PLACE by Andrew Kushnir
Directed by Alan Dilworth
August 6-16, 2009, at the SummerWorks Theatre Festival.
THE MIDDLE PLACE is a piece of verbatim theatre constructed from
interviews done over two years at a Rexdale youth shelter. 4 actors
portray 18 residents and 3 caseworkers. All ethnicities encouraged to
submit for all roles, though we're especially interested in
non-Caucasian actors for Actor 2 and Actress 2.
Actor 1 - Male, various roles to play late-teens to late-20s.
Primary role is AIDAN, a young father-to-be who's in anger management.
Blue collar, talkative, and in love.
Actor 2 - Male, various roles to play late-teens to late-20s.
Primary role is ROMEO, a young black poet with loads of charm and
imagination. A natural leader.
Actress 1 - Female, various roles to play late-teens to early-30s.
Primary role is NEVAEH, a young, pregnant Bulgarian woman with a keen
sense of beauty. Hopeful, an artist, a survivor.
Actress 2 - Female, various roles to play late-teens to early-30s.
Primary role is KAALIYAH, the shelter's alpha female, an intimidating
black woman with a shocking wit. A bully who betrays a softer side.
