Additional information:
Hally: White Male, to play 17 years old. South African. Intelligent,
well spoken, and kind. Although he lives in the time of Apartheid, he
has befriended the black workers at the St. George's Park Tea Room,
owned by his family. Underneath a well polished exterior lies an anger
and explosive interior. A great agility with text is necessary.
Sam: Black male, to play mid-40's. Sam is the Head Waiter at the
St.George's Park Tea Room, in 1950 Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He has
educated himself with the help of Hally (Master Harold), with whom a
great friendship exists. Sam is strong, watchful, speaks from his heart
and soul. Strong in voice and stature. Sam is also an accomplished Ball
Room dancer.
Willie: Black male, to play early 40's. Willies works as a Bus-boy at
St. George's. Willie has little to none formal education. Willie is a
frustrated, short tempered victim of Apartheid who can resort to
violence because of his lack of ability to articulate his thoughts.
Willie has been working on his Ball Room Dancing as a way to put some
importance into his life. Willie has the keen to hear everything that is
being said, while seemingly invisible.
Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity
members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of
contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the
