Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement:
We are seeking 8 actors in total, at least 3 of whom will play double
roles; we want diversity in the cast, with South Asians likely playing
the three leads, namely the boy (Amal), his uncle (Madhab Dhutta) and
the flowergirl (Sudha.) There will be an Indian choreographer (Hari
Krishnan) and composer (Debashis Sinha), and director John Van Burek.
All the actors will be called upon to dance and play some kind of
musical instrument(s). They are not expected to know Indian dance or
music but should be prepared to learn elements of these in the course of
the workshop.
