REFERENDUM ON INCREASE TO BASIC DUES - VOTER KITS NOW IN THE MAIL TO THE EQUITY MEMBERSHIP

2011 Dues Referendum Voter Kits, including detailed instructions on voting by Internet, telephone or mail, have now been mailed to Equity members in good standing who are eligible to cast a ballot. Internet and telephone voting opens Monday, November 7, 2011.

There are two parts to the referendum proposal, to be decided separately. The first is an increase in the annual dues, to offset the cumulative inflation of the past 12 years. The increase would be introduced in stages to lessen the impact on members. Basic dues would be set at $160 per year ($80 semi-annually) effective May 1, 2012, and increased in small increments each year thereafter until 2016.

The second proposal would permit Council to adjust the basic dues on a four year cycle, commencing in 2020, provided that the increase is no more than the actual amount of inflation for the preceding four year period. Any change that might exceed that cap or frequency would still require membership approval. This question will be put separately from the first, so that members may decide each matter on its own merits.
