Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement:
Camila's Bones is a highly kinetic futuristic play that takes place in a dystopian world where conception can be currency and at times the price for freedom. Camila, a young foreign worker, escapes from a city labour camp to find herself contracted as a surrogate mother. When the deal falls through she must choose between motherhood and freedom. The project will begin workshop in June with a production at the SummerWorks Festival in August 2013. Our creative team consists of Playwright Alejandro Valbuena, Director Anita La Selva, Producer Aislinn Rose, Lighting Designer Trevor Schwellnus and Choreographer Roshanak Jaberi.

Additional information:

Camila - 17-22 Female. Latin. Slightly innocent but sadly wise enough about her situation. Passionate. Driven.

Menchi - 50-60 Female. Latin. Cunnning and hard to read. A friend like no other - almost motherly but with fewer scruples.

Devin - 40ish Male. Caucasian. Pragmatic beyond limits. His only weakness is his wife.

Chloe - 35-40 Female Caucasian. Dangerously beautiful. Self punishing. Tormented by her desire for motherhood and her relationship to God.

Roger - 25-30 Male. Latin. A young man who has never known love until this moment. If stupidity were a sin he'd be guilty.

Guard - 25-30 Male. Latin. Shy, polite and caring.

Judge - 60-70 Male. Caucasian. Robust, detached and practical.

Workers/Beurocrats - 20-40. Males/Females.  Latin and all ethnicities. Looking for highly physical actors with movement background.

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the audition.
