NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE 2013-2016 OPERA AGREEMENT SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDE

Equity announces that bargaining with the Calgary Opera Association,
Edmonton Opera Association, Manitoba Opera Association, Opera Hamilton
Inc., Opera Lyra Ottawa, Pacific Opera Victoria and Opera Atelier for
the 2013-2016 Opera Agreement has successfully concluded. 

Equity members in good standing who worked under the terms of the
2010-2013 Opera Agreement are eligible to vote on the ratification of
the proposed changes. A ratification vote by mail ballot (only) will
commence shortly. Details will follow as soon as are available.

Equity and the Calgary Opera Association, Edmonton Opera Association,
Manitoba Opera Association, Opera Hamilton Inc., Opera Lyra Ottawa,
Pacific Opera Victoria and Opera Atelier entered into negotiations in
May 2013. Bargaining concluded on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

The negotiated financial increases to the Opera Agreement are: 1.5% in
year 1; 1.5% in year 2; and 3% in year 3. Other negotiated improvements
include: engagement of children in "Supporting" roles on an Equity
contract (new); greater flexibility regarding the giving of notes;
increased engager obligation to assist in providing housing options for
artists working away from home; expanded terms encouraging the
development of new work, reduction in the length of unpaid photo calls;
and  streamlined administrative procedures.

Pending a successful ratification, the new terms of the Opera Agreement
will come into effect July 1, 2013.
