RECENT EQUITY BYLAW UPDATES
-----------------
Equity's Council encourages all members to be familiar with the bylaws
that govern membership in our Association. Electronic copies of the
current bylaws are always available in the "Document Library" section of
EQUITYONLINE, and are available in print format upon request to the
Association.
At its meeting of October 27, 2014, Council approved the following bylaw
change:
Article 144: has been updated to send out electronic notice of any
amendments, and to bring the online bylaws up to date, within two weeks
of any change. In addition, printed notice of accumulated changes will
be sent out with the next available dues invoice, to ensure that members
who do not rely on electronic communication are also informed in the
timely manner.
-----------------
At its meeting of September 22, 2014, Council approved the following
bylaw changes:
Article 1: has been updated to add a definition of "defaulting engager,"
as the term is used in several locations in the bylaws.
Article 15.1: a new article added to refine the counting of daily or
short term permit engagements toward the limit on the maximum number of
permits available before an artist must join the Association. In
essence, for contracts of less than two weeks (e.g., for a workshop),
workdays are added together across multiple contracts, with each 12
workdays counting as a single permit engagement toward the cap of four.
This change fixes an unintended equivalency between short term and
ordinary production engagements.
Article 32: now includes a clear prohibition on contracting with a
defaulting engager.
Article 82: the term "unfair engager," which was not defined nor used
anywhere else in bylaws, was replaced with the term "defaulting
engager."
Article 91: language in this article, dealing with dues remission for
senior members, was clarified.
Article 91.1: a new article adding a requirement to proactively notify
senior members of their eligibility for dues remission. Although
knowledge of and uptake on this option is widespread, Council hopes that
this change will increase awareness even further. In addition, new
language clarifies that a member who chooses not to apply upon initial
eligibility may still apply at a later time.
