About the play:
In 1890, Henrik Ibsen premiered Hedda Gabler, a play questioning the role of women in Victorian society. Some audiences have viewed Gabler as a woman driven to desperation simply because her world has turned out to be less charmed than she hoped. For others, she is a victim of her times, unwilling to devote herself, as was expected of her, to the duties of home. Now, Jennifer Tarver takes on the contemporary retelling of this classic play, presented by Canadian Stage in association with Necessary Angel Theatre Company.

About the role:

Judge Brack - Male, 35-50. Sharp. Sexy. impeccable. bisexual or gay (closeted). Is able to maneuver to his own purposes through any situation. Smart. Agile. Charming. Persuasive. Powerful without ever seeming overbearing. Wants a comfortable position of power without the restrictions of a traditional married life. Likes banter and humour and engages in the risqué, but not to any great risk. Likes to be well situated: is attracted to Hedda's "household" Slippery, keeps himself floating above the dirt.
