EQUITY BYLAW UPDATES - SEPTEMBER 2015
-------------------------------
Equity's Council encourages all members to be familiar with the rules that
govern membership in our Association. Electronic copies of the current
bylaws are always posted for review or download in the "Document Library"
section of EQUITYONLINE, and are available in print format upon request to
the Association.
At its meeting of August 24, 2015, Council approved the following bylaw
changes:
• A new Article 122.1 formalizes longstanding practice that the voting and
Councillor requirement for membership in good standing similarly applies to
both nominators and nominees.
• A new Article 123(b) has been inserted to establish an enumeration
deadline for voters to come into good standing. The same deadline – five
business days prior to close of voting – already exists for referendums.
• Article 129 formerly specified the last day in October as the deadline for
receipt of election ballots. It has been changed to the last business day in
October to accommodate situations where October 31 falls on a weekend.
• Article 130.2 is new. It is a copy of the former version of Article 135
(see next amendment), which described the process for challenging election
and referendum voting results. The reference to referendums has been
removed, so that Article 130.2 now only refers to elections, and more
detailed language around retention of voting records has been added.
• Article 135, which formerly described the process for challenging election
and referendum voting results, has been amended to remove reference to
elections, and to include more detailed language around retention of voting
records.
Together, these last two changes put functionally identical challenge
language in both the election and referendum sections of the bylaws.
