Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement:
The Pulp Collective strongly encourages submissions from individuals of all
ethnicity and cultural backgrounds.
Additional information:
In addition to the roles below we seek to fill four additional ensemble
roles with both men and women.
Queenie St. Clair - (African American, female, 30s-50s) Self-made woman who
made a fortune running a numbers racket in 1930s Harlem. Originally from
Martinique, she came to Harlem from France and places great pride on being
European (accent and all). Known for her fiery temper and steely resolve.
Dutch Schultz - (Caucasian, male, 20s to early 30s) After climbing his way
up through the mafia ranks Dutch set himself up as the Beer Baron during
prohibition. Quick to anger, terrifying when he's silent, Dutch runs his
empire with a steel fist and brooks no dissent.
Bumpy Johnson - (African American, male, 20s-30s) Grew up in Harlem during
the 20s, after a proposition to join Dutch's team he turns them down in
favour of Queenie. Bumpy is the voice of reason, his counsel is essential
and invaluable.
Abbadabba Bergman - (Caucasian, male, 20s-40s) A genius with numbers but
nervous around people. Abbadabba discovers a genius plan to make the numbers
racket work in the favour of the owner, which brings him to Dutch's
attention and into his inner circle.
Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members
cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract.
