Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement:
The Firehall is an inclusive employer and casts its productions in a
progressive and inclusive manner. We are inviting submissions from
performers from all ethnic,religious and cultural backgrounds.

Additional information:
The Firehall Arts Centre is holding auditions on Thursday, December 1st  for
its upcoming production of Refuge by Mary Vingoe.

Refuge: premiered at Eastern Front Theatre in 2013. Refuge tells the story
of those who try to help Ayinom, a man from Eritrea who enters Canada
illegally to join his mother in hopes to retain refugee status.

Cast of six including:
Amleset: Female; Late 30’s to 60’s; new Canadian and North African refugee;
Mother of Ayinom

Pamel: Female; 40’s; Bi-racial Indo Canadian; former human rights advocate
turned art historian and volunteer at the refugee clinic

Allan: Male; 40’s; Pamel’s husband; artist

Membratu: Male; mid 30’s- 50’s; North African; community leader and friend
of Ayinom

Saul: Male; 40’s; Jewish; accomplished immigration lawyer and Pamel’s friend
from the past

CBC Radio Journalist: This role has already been cast

Rehearsals begin Mar 1-21, 2016 including previews; Opening March 22 and
running until April 1, 2017.

To book an audition time, please submit your resume and photo by Friday,
November 25th, 2016. Those chosen for an audition will be contacted by
November 30th, 2016.

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members
cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract.
