ACTORS:
Equity and Non-Equity. Equity members cast in this production will be
engaged under an Equity form of contract. CAEA members: please bring your
membership card to the audition.
Actors must be Edmonton based.

Characters:

Con - Emma’s son, a Twenty-something playwright, in love with Nina.
Passionate and creative he has a complicated relationship with his mother.

Mash -A part-time Twenty-something cook, obsessed with Con, plays the
ukulele and writes songs. Fiercely intelligent, and more clear-sighted than
most about the emotional mess she and her friends are in.

Nina - A Twenty-something actress, emotional, energetic and has a
destructive side. She is in love with the stage and with art but her
passions can be destructive.

Dev - A tutor that has affection for Mash, Con’s best friend. Pleasant,
unassuming, frank and genuine.

Emma - A celebrated but aging actress, Con’s mother. Grand, confident and
also pragmatic and practical.

Doyle Trigorin - A famous writer who is dating Emma. Can be polite and
gracious but has a difficult time hiding his literate and pretentious side.
Easily distracted and often selfish.

Sorn - A rumpled older doctor who longs to be young again, Emma’s brother. A
patient and supportive uncle to Con, he carries with him many of life’s
regrets and expresses an existential dread.

Edmonton Actors Theatre is a company formed by Artistic Director Dave Horak
to focus on the actor's art, process and training. This award-winning
company produces theatre that challenges the performers and the audience and
is constantly investigating the relationship between the two. Edmonton
Actors Theatre has been nominated for 17 Sterling Awards, winning 8 awards
for Direction, Production, Acting and Design. Previous productions include
Burning Bluebeard which won 5 Sterling Awards last season and will be
remounted at The Roxy on Gateway this December and Fatboy, produced at the
2012 Edmonton Fringe which garnered four Sterling Award nominations, winning
three awards for Outstanding Production, Actor and Director and remounted at
Theatre Network’s Roxy Theatre in 2014. Other productions have included 70
Scenes of Halloween, Sam Shepard's Cowboy Mouth, T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland,
and The Bomb-itty of Errors which toured Alberta as part of Theatre Alberta’s
Best of the Fringe series. Edmonton Actors Theatre specializes in bringing a
multitude of performance styles and traditions to the stage: Cowboy Mouth
was performed by a real-life rock and roll couple, The Wasteland combined
one of the most influential poems of the twentieth-century with twenty-first
century technology and The Bomb-itty of Errors blended Shakespeare with some
of Edmonton's best Hip Hop performers.

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members
cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract.
