SUDBURY, ONTARIO, February 22, 2008 - Mr. Michael Rosen, President of Tree
Canada, is pleased to announce that Strathcona County, Alberta will host the
8th Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC8) from September 23-26, 2008. The
conference will take place at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park, just 25
minutes from the Edmonton International Airport. The formal announcement was
made at a special award ceremony hosted by the Lifford Wine Agency who has
funded more than $50,000 worth of tree planting through its plantatreewine (

This conference will be dynamic and practical, presenting the most recent
innovations in urban forestry under the theme - Healthy Trees, Healthy
People. "The link between human health and trees is real and needs to be
explored," says Sheila Flint, Arboriculture/Horticulturalist for Strathcona
County and Chair of the CUFC8. "With 80% of its people living in cities, its
essential that Canada showcase one of its greatest assets to the world -
it's urban forests". 

David Suzuki will kick-off the conference with a keynote address offering a
compelling look at the state of our environment. Both inspiring and
realistic, he offers leading-edge insights into sustainable development and
how we can live well and still protect our environment. 

An event that reaches well beyond Alberta and Canadian borders, this
conference will feature a meeting of worldwide delegates from the
International Society of Arboriculture, a dynamic awards ceremony and
presenters of international recognition on the psychological benefits of
trees and other timely topics. A children's Talking Forest Conference will
also take place this June as a lead-up to the conference. 

The beauty of the area's forests will be profiled on a variety of field

Strathcona County's Sustainable Initiatives, the Beaver Hills Initiative and
Edmonton's scenic River Valley. 

CUFC1 was held in Winnipeg in 1993 with subsequent conferences occurring in
Halifax (Nova Scotia), Windsor (Ontario), Calgary (Alberta), York (Ontario),
Kelowna (British Columbia) and Quebec City. This pan-Canadian conference is
increasing in its reputation as it demonstrates the innovations and maturity
of urban forestry in Canada. 

To date, Tree Canada has engaged more than 60 top Canadian companies and
government agencies to support the planting of over 75 million trees, the
regreening of over 300 schoolyards and the enhancement of the urban forests
in over 350 municipalities. A winner of the 2007 Canadian Environmental
Award, Tree Canada has already organized seven urban forest conferences
since its creation to sensitize Canadians to the benefits of planting and
maintaining trees.

Le comté de Strathcona, Alberta, accueillera en 2008 la 8e Conférence
canadienne sur la forêt urbaine 

SUDBURY, ONTARIO, 22 février 2008 - M. Michael Rosen, président de Tree
Canada, est heureux d'annoncer que le comté de Strathcona, Alberta,
accueillera la 8e Conférence canadienne sur la forêt urbaine (CCFU8) du 23
au 26 septembre 2008. La conférence se tiendra au Millenium Place dans
Sherwood Park, à 25 minutes de l'aéroport international d'Edmonton.
L'annonce officielle de la tenue de l'événement a été faite au cours d'une
cérémonie spéciale de remise de prix organisée par la l'agence Lifford Wine
qui a financé la plantation d'arbres pour un montant dépassant 50.000 $, par
le biais de plantatreewine ( www.plantatreewine.com

La conférence sera un évènement dynamique axé sur des contenus pratiques et
elle présentera les plus récentes innovations en matière de foresterie
urbaine sous le thème « Arbres sains, personnes en santé ». Le lien entre la
santé humaine et les arbres est réel et mérite d'être exploré » a déclaré
Sheila Flin, arboricultrice et horticultrice au service du comté de
Sthracona et présidente de la CCFU8. « 80 % des Canadiens vivent dans les
villes et il est donc essentiel que le Canada présente au monde l'un de ses
plus grands atouts : ses forêts urbaines ». 

C'est le docteur David Suzuki qui donnera le coup d'envoi de la conférence
en présentant aux participants un point de vue convaincant sur l'état de
notre environnement. Inspirant et réaliste, il offre une vision
d'avant-garde sur la question du développement durable et sur la façon dont
nous pouvons vivre confortablement tout en protégeant notre environnement. 

Cet événement dont la portée dépassera l'Alberta et les frontières du Canada
comprendra une réunion de délégués de la Société internationale
d'arboriculture venant du monde entier, une cérémonie animée de remise de
prix et des orateurs de renommée internationale qui traiteront des bienfaits
des arbres sur le plan psychologique et autres sujets actuels. Une
conférence sur la forêt parlante destinée aux enfants aura lieu en juin et
servira de pont au lancement de la conférence. 

La beauté de la région des forêts sera présentée aux visiteurs dans le cadre
de plusieurs visites des activités de terrain ( www.cufc8.ca

comté de Strathcona, l'initiative Beaver Hills et la vallée fluviale
panoramique d'Edmonton. 

La première CCFU (CCFU1) s'est tenue à Winnipeg en 1993, et les conférences
suivantes à Halifax (Nouvelle-Écosse), Windsor (Ontario), Calgary (Alberta),
York (Ontario), Kelowna (Colombie-Britannique) et dans la ville de Québec.
Cette conférence d'envergure pancanadienne est de plus en plus reconnue pour
sa mise en valeur des innovations et de la maturité de la foresterie urbaine
au Canada. 

À ce jour, Arbres Canada a obtenu l'engagement de plus de soixante
entreprises et organismes gouvernementaux canadiens de premier plan pour la
plantation de plus de 75 millions d'arbres, le reverdissement de plus de 300
cours d'écoles et l'amélioration des forêts urbaines dans plus de 350
municipalités. Arbres Canada a été lauréat des Prix canadiens de
l'environnement et l'organisme a organisé sept conférences sur la forêt
canadienne depuis sa création pour sensibiliser les Canadiens et les
