We have a Partners in Parks program which allows boulvard planting (for all the great reasons Andy Hillman mentioned). There is an agreement we have the homeowners sign. You can go to our website at www.waterloo.ca and search Partners in Parks. As well you can call Peggy Bednarek (Partners in Parks administrator) 519 886 2310 for more details and insight. Best of luck with your project - Karen

Subject: Landscaping of Boulevards
Hello: given that xeriscaping has become a popular choice of landscape
maintenance, a number of residents of our city are requesting permission
to landscape the boulevards attached to their homes using xeriscaping
principles. Does any community out there have a written policy
regarding xeriscaping or landscaping of their boulevards? We are in the
process of developing such a policy and would appreciate input from
other communities.

Hello:

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN has just opened its new
urban and community forestry web site. This is a great glimpse into
urban
forestry at the international level. I encourage you to have a look and
contribute to the site where you can. As you will see, one of the
objectives is to assist our colleagues in less developed countries.

Cheers,

Andy
