The City of Edmonton also operates a tree nursery.
The Old Man Creek Nursery is operated by the City of Edmonton, [River Valley Forestry and Environmental Services, Parks Branch, Asset Management and Public Works] to supply woody plants for planting in City parks and open spaces.
The Nursery does not propagate plants but liners are purchased and are grown on to be calliper trees. Potted and basketed plants are purchased for immediate planting (within the growing season) for City projects.
The Nursery operates with four business units:
* Tree Sales Unit: The purchase and resale of calliper trees (usually) within the growing season.
* Naturalization Sales Unit: The purchase and resale of native plant material, (usually container grown) used for naturalization (usually) within the growing season.
* Shrub Sales Unit: The purchase and sale of shrubs and occasional perennials (usually container grown) for resale (usually) within growing season.
* Field Operation Unit: The purchase and growing on of liners, both deciduous and evergreen, for growing on to calliper size over a period of 5 to 10 years.
The Old Man Creek Nursery operates on a single site of 34.98 hectares.
I would be happy to answer more questions.
