Hi everyone,
There is an announcement today (March 25) by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for new Ministerial Orders in areas of Quebec and Ontario to regulate emerald ash borer movement. There are changes to the existing Ministerial Order for Ottawa and Gatineau. The previous regulated area has been expanded to include the entire City of Ottawa and now also includes the United Counties of Leeds-Grenville; the regulated area in Gatineau remains unchanged. Attached is the news release, and new regulated area maps for EAB from the CFIA.

Good Morning,

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency will be issuing a news release this morning at approximately 11:00 am to announce a new Ministerial Order to establish four regulated areas for the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in Quebec and Ontario. These regulated areas are now set out in one single Ministerial Order, rather than the previous practice of issuing one Ministerial Order per regulated area. All previous Ministerial Orders have been revoked.

The four regulated areas are:

1. The City of Ottawa and the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville in Ontario and parts of Gatineau, Quebec

2. Southern Ontario, including: Hamilton, Toronto, the Regional Municipalities of Chatham-Kent, Durham, York, Peel, Halton, Niagara and Waterloo and the Counties of Brant (including the City of Brantford), Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Norfolk, Oxford, Perth and Wellington.

3. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

4. The Municipalities of Carignan, Chambly, Richelieu, Saint-Basile-le-Grand and Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu, Quebec

Details on the four regulated areas are contained in the draft news release, backgrounder and map of the regulated area, which are attached for your information. Final versions will be available on the EAB mainpage after 11:00 am today. These can be accessed online at : www.inspection.gc.ca/pests (English) or www.inspection.gc.ca/phytoravageurs (French)

The map and MO will be posted at the following link, should you wish to reference it in any of your public communications:

English: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pestrava/agrpla/regrestrice.shtml
French: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/francais/plaveg/pestrava/agrpla/regrestricf.shtml

Should you have any questions regarding communications matters on EAB, or require any additional information or communications products to support your local communications on EAB, please feel free to contact either myself or Kim Wulterkens, who is our new EAB Communications Officer for the CFIA in Ontario.

Kim can be reached by email at kim.wulterkens at inspection.gc.ca or by phone at (519) 826-2957.

Regards,
