Dear Urban Forestry Colleagues,
I have been offered a Course Directorship to teach "Urban Ecologies" at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, for the winter term. This is a third-year undergraduate course in the BES (Bachelor of Environmental Studies) program at York University.
The course considers both biophysical and cultural dynamics shaping and affecting urban ecology. Largely focussing on my area of research, my goals for the course are to combine theoretical perspectives and applied approaches to urban ecological knowledge. Themes in the course include political paradigms, social (in)justices, stratifications and transects, education and creativity.
As I (re)design the course over the coming weeks, I am asking for any input or key highlights that you feel are lacking in higher education with respect to urban forestry as well as the main points of contention you see in your work with respect to collaboration.
I appreciate your suggestions. Please respond to abard at yorku.ca by August 31st.
Thank you,
Adrina
