Heritage Tree Workshop
This one and/or two day event includes a Heritage Tree Workshop (June 8) and
Field Tour (June 9, 2012) organised by the Ontario Urban Forest Council
(OUFC), Trees Ontario and the Ottawa Forests and Greenspace Advisory
Committee with support from Tree Canada.
June 8, 2012 offers a learning experience for participants with presenters
from the OUFC, the Ontario Heritage Trust, City of Ottawa and Trees Ontario
discussing the value of trees, how heritage trees are defined, identified
and evaluated, how to undertake cultural research on trees and how heritage
trees can be protected under the Planning Act, the Municipal Act and the
Ontario Heritage Act. This is a full day event with a short field component
after the workshop. Full participation in the June 8 workshop will provide a
"Heritage Tree Evaluator" certification for interested professionals. The
workshop will also address how arboriculture practices need to be adapted to
accommodate big old interesting "heritage trees".
On June 9, 2012, a bus field trip to Rideau Hall, Parc Richelieu and the
Champlain Oaks area has been organised for family and friends and a guided
tour of noteworthy trees, designated trees and potential heritage trees
together with a picnic lunch is available (for $ 30. inclusive).
Space is limited at both events. Book NOW!
