PNW ISA Training Conference Coming To Surrey, BC
SAVE THE DATES - Saturday, September 21 to Wednesday, September 25, 2013!
A Committee of experienced and dedicated Arborists from the Metro Vancouver
area have come together under Conference Chair Steve Whitton (City of Surrey
Trees and Landscape Manager) to plan an exciting, active program for the
2013 Annual Training Conference. The Sheraton Guildford Hotel, located near
Highway 1 and 152 Street, will be the host hotel, providing accommodation
and the conference facility. At the hotel there is a fitness centre and
swimming pool, as well as nearby Guildford Recreation Centre, and many
nature trails in parks nearby.
The City of Surrey provides a successful mix of natural and urban
landscapes, has a spectacular pace of new development, as well as extensive
natural and developed parks and Urban Forests.
Green Timbers Urban Forest is close to the Sheraton Guildford and will be
the site of the PNW Tree Climbing Competition, hosted by BC Plant Health
Care, to be held on September 21 and 22, 2013. The Surrey Nature Centre, at
Green Timbers, will be featured at the Tree Climbing Competition and will
also be open Sunday for families and guests to explore. The Nature Centre
welcomes more than 10,000 visitors annually.
On Sunday, September 22 a Tree Academy focussing on "Business of the
Business of Trees" will be held at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel, along with
early registration and a Welcome Reception.
The Field Day on Monday, September 23, with buses leaving from the Guildford
Sheraton Centre to Bear Creek Park will include tours of Surrey's great
natural and horticultural Urban Forests and estate-sized developed gardens,
co-ordinated and led by Surrey's Urban Forestry Arborists. Buses will
depart to Urban Forest and botanical-garden areas in Surrey, with delegates
able to pre-select the tour that best represents their interests from their
Program Registration. There are approximately 3500 acres of natural park
areas, large urban forests within the City of Surrey, over 65,000 street
trees and 18,000 shade trees in parks throughout the City, with an
additional 5,000 trees planted each year along streets and in City parks.
Training Days will be held at the Sheraton Guildford all day Tuesday,
September 24 and the morning of Wednesday, September 25. George Kourounis,
Host of Outdoor Life Network's Angry Planet, and a world-renowned
Storm-Chaser and global adventurer, will begin the Sessions as Keynote
Speaker. You can read more about George on www.stormchaser.ca

Save the dates in your calendar. This conference is in the Lower Mainland
for the first time! For arborists from West Vancouver to Chilliwack, from
Bellingham to Squamish, there will be a no headache commute. There are also
three nearby airports in Abbotsford, Richmond and Bellingham. Plus the
conference site is only a 30 minute drive from the USA Border! Remember to
bring your current Passport to cross the border.
In Surrey, The Future Lives Here. Please come and join in our exciting
Arboricultural future together.
