[CANUFNET] Costs, volumes and utilization related to urban forests/street trees

Hello Urban Forest Managers and Practitioners,

As you are well aware, street trees and trees in urban forests (i.e. forested parks) are removed and replaced on an annual basis.  I am working on a value proposition for a project that could see more value extracted from urban forests through the use of central processing yards and small scale manufacturing of high value wood products in urban areas.  This is entirely at the exploratory stage now and I am looking for some very rough numbers/estimates that I can use to justify the value of such a project.

Answers to 3 questions (at a very rough level) regarding tree management in your jurisdiction include:

1.            How much do you spend annually on the management of street trees and trees in urban forests (e.g. cost of transport, disposal, re-use, etc.)?
2.            How much volume (i.e. cubic metres) do you process annually?
3.            What uses do you have for the fibre/biomass (e.g. chips for bedding, biofuels, compost, waste, etc.)?

Your feedback and data is very much appreciated.  Hopefully, with your help, we can extract more value from our urban forests to help defray more of the costs of managing them and perhaps increase employment.  Thank you for your time.
