Urban Forestry at the University of British Columbia

Dear members of the Canadian Urban Forest Network,
UBC’s Faculty of Forestry will introduce a new undergraduate degree program in Urban Forestry in 2015 subject to university and government approval). The program will be innovative and holistic in meeting the future needs of over half the world’s population living in cities. The program will go beyond street trees, encompassing forests and green-space systems that serve and protect urban areas. UBC Forestry will produce urban forest managers and forest planners who understand systems (e.g. – ecological, infrastructural, hydrological, transportation), have strong skills in forest management as well as landscape and recreation planning, are able to think across the urban/rural interface and are knowledgeable about climate change adaptation and mitigation. Urban Forestry Conference in Victoria, British Columbia (September 29 to October 2, 2014)
UBC forestry will present their new Urban Forestry program at the 11th Canadian Urban Forestry Conference in Victoria October 1, 2014. Join them at the breakout session “The Future of Urban Forestry Education”. Your comments and feedback would be much appreciated.
