Reports To:                 OPERATIONS MANAGER
Work location:           Ottawa, Ontario

Tree Canada is a not-for-profit charitable organization established to encourage Canadians to plant and care for trees in urban and rural environments.  To date 80 million trees have been planted by Tree Canada through the support of corporations, government departments, foundations and individuals.

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Manager is responsible for providing leadership to the rural and urban parts of Tree Canada's operational programs including:  National Greening Program, Operation ReLeaf, and Partners In Planting and Tree City Canada, ensuring that projects are completed according to the Tree Canada mandate, to a professional standard and in a cost-effective manner.  As the organization is largely financed by the private sector, the position requires sensitivity and a good sense of customer-service while working with Tree Canada's sponsors and donors.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

*        Applying project management and technical expertise for Tree Canada in its rural and urban programs: National Greening Program, Operation ReLeaf, Partners In Planting and Tree City Canada programs (60%):

-          Liaising with Manager, Development to understand needs of sponsoring partner, to gain consensus on project objectives, deliverables, schedule, cost, and implementation considerations

-          Implement planting program with Community Advisers in selected sites across Canada

-          Under the direction of Tree Canada's President, interface with the Board of Directors and Tree Canada sponsors to ensure that client and research project management needs are met

-          Ensure all appropriate project deliverables are completed and handled in accordance with documented standards



·         Representing Tree Canada at selected trade shows throughout Canada and delivering presentations to municipalities, community groups and others (10%)

·         Provide education and outreach to Tree Canada's audience in conjunction with the communications department by writing content on urban forestry & forestry issues for blog posts on a monthly basis (10%)

·         Maintaining a GIS based location system for tree planting and other tree projects (10%)

·         Performing other related duties as required. (10%)


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


·         Post-secondary (Master's or Bachelor's) degree in forestry, urban forestry, environmental studies, land use planning, or geography

·         2 years of project management and implementation related experience

·         Experience working with diverse stakeholders including municipalities, universities, the private sector and other stakeholders

DECISION MAKING & ACCOUNTABILITY


·         Works under minimal supervision and uses own judgement to prioritize and lead projects.

·         Makes decisions and exercises independent judgement within generally established procedures and practices.

·         Seeks guidance and consults with others as required.

·         Accountable to the Operations Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES


·         Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets

·         Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project (or other project management software); knowledge and experience in Salesforce is an asset.

·         GIS knowledge preferable (software: Esri's ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro)

·         Solid knowledge of tree biology and a demonstrated  solid background in the natural sciences, with practical field experience

·         Strong quantitative skills

·         Excellent analytical, writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders.

·         Detail oriented and organized with a demonstrated client-focused mindset.

·         Ability to work both independently and with a team in a fast paced environment

·         Thorough knowledge of the risk management processes, planning and analysis tools for project management.

·         Proficiency in English and French a definite asset.

·         Respect for the values and differences that all members of a small team bring to an office environment; adaptable to different approaches and flexible to move in new directions
Compensation

Salary will be dependent upon experience.

Term

This term position is a full-time for the period of August 29, 2016 to August 25, 2017, with possibility for renewal.
