Who Are We??
Located within an hour of the GTA, we deliver the hard-to-find combination of quality learning and quality of life in the communities we serve. There is nothing more beautiful than watching a sunset over the water of a Kawartha lake, lighting a bonfire and making S'mores with the kids, playing games inside when it is raining or just sitting on the dock relaxing.
It has been 50 amazing years since Sir Sandford Fleming College was established in 1967. With an original intake of 235 students, Fleming College now boasts 6,000 full-time and 10,000 part-time students enrolled at four campuses in four counties, including over 800 international students from countries around the world. We are also extremely proud of our more than 71,000 Fleming alumni who are contributing to their communities in the region, across the province and around the world.

What This Position is About:
As a team member of the Forestry cluster of programs, you are part of a close-knit community of men and women across the country who are making a difference in our environment. Fleming College's Forestry program is the largest in Canada. In this two-year program, our students acquire the skills to work effectively in natural resources management - learning traditional forestry skills such as compassing and tree identification, plus how to work with ArcMap, GPS and other high tech software.

Our Arboriculture program has been recognized by the International Society of Arboriculture, Ontario Chapter, for "advancing the principles, ideas and practice of Arboriculture in Ontario." In this 3 semester program, our students acquire the theoretical knowledge for all aspects of urban tree care, as well as such practical skills as safe tree climbing techniques, aerial rescue, pruning techniques, tree removal, power line clearing, and the operation and maintenance of relevant equipment.

What Are We Looking For:
You possess a relevant combination of education and current, progressive experience (minimum 5 years), including a degree (minimum) in a Forestry-related program (Masters degree an asset) and a Registered Professional Forester designation is preferred. You have experience in teaching or training and applied field experience with expertise in areas such as: forestry, tree identification, forestry ecology, forest inventory, silviculture, soils, scaling and forest products. You actively research and keep abreast of current issues and trends related to the forest industry. You have solid understanding of the law and applicable legislation such as the Crown Forest Sustainability Act and have experience working with First Nation communities. You have demonstrated leadership skills in developing and delivering safe and effective field work experiences including: safety training, equipment handling, and related skill development, which are complemented by your GIS, surveying/GPS experience. Certifications such as: WSN Chainsaw Trainer, Ontario Tree Marking Certificate etc. would be considered assets.

You have an established industry network that could provide opportunities for our students and graduates and opportunities for the college in continuing education and contract training opportunities.

This role also requires self-motivation, flexibility and a passion for learning and student success. You have the drive to continuously learn and achieve results. This position can be physically demanding as you will be assigned to field experiences (and camp) in a variety of weather conditions. You will focus on enhancing the student experience by creating a rich and open learning environment that embraces diversity and providing superior service to students. You are able to apply theories of adult learning and teaching, utilize innovative delivery methods and relevant assessment and evaluation techniques, as well as contribute to curriculum and program development. You are able to work independently and as part of a team and can effectively contribute to multidisciplinary teams utilizing your strong leadership skills. Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as interpersonal and critical thinking/problem solving skills are required.
