Subject: [CANUFNET] Urban Forestry Footprint in Canada

Dear CUFN ,
We would like to share the mapping results of the project “Urban Forestry Footprint in Canada” that we hope helps us to see the extent and intensity of urban forestry activities across Canada’s urban municipalities.
http://forests-settled-urban-landscapes.org/UrbanForestryFootprint/index.html

The project was envisioned and initiated at the Faculty of Forestry, the University of Toronto in 2015, by looking at urban forestry in Ontario, and thanks to Tree Canada and MITCAS support we were able to extend this work across Canada.
We would like to acknowledge Dr. Adrina C. Bardekjian for spearheading the project idea with Tree Canada, and for being part of the team and providing invaluable advice and assistance on the project. We would also like to thank Peter Wynnyczuk, Ontario Urban Forest Council, for his guidance and support.

I hope that you will find the interactive maps useful and informative: grasp the spatial extent of urban forestry activities; to raise the profile of Urban Forestry; showcase forestry profession; use maps for teaching, support urban forestry proposal; share with decisions makers, etc. In addition to the project web page and interactive maps, we are working on a publication that will summarize the results.

Note – we are aware that there might some omissions; which are related to the way information was gathered (web info mining) time and resources we had to complete this work. Yu Yung - Yuki, an MFC student, whose work and internship have been instrumental for gathering this information, will continue to update the information we have until March 1st, 2018; If we missed your municipality, Yuki’s e-mail is yuki.yung at mail.utoronto.ca.

This project is a snapshot of Urban Forestry, and we are aware of dynamics of urban forestry activates and growth of new programs and areas. If you have suggestions how to keep the updates beyond February 1st, please feel free to contact me at d.puric at utoronto.ca.
