[CANUFNET] Tree Policy

Hello everyone

City of Moose Jaw has a Boulevard Tree Removal Policy, which can be found here: https://www.moosejaw.ca/wp-content/uploads/Boulevard_Tree_Removal.pdf?ts=1526654109366

Driveway and sidewalk permits come through Parks and Rec here to check for interference with boulevard trees. Our general rule of thumb is for every 4" dbh the driveway must be at least 0.5 m away from the base of the tree with a minimum of 1 m away. We've run into some issues lately with new driveways and trees, but the policy helps give us something to fall back on to keep perfectly healthy trees from being taken out.

Does anyone have a list of tree-friendly driveways or a good construction policy to protect trees when this kind of excavation is happening?

Thank you

Good Morning All,

The Town of Amherst is currently drafting a tree policy for all town owned trees and I would be very interested to hear what others have included in their tree policies and also any issues you may have run into after the inception of a formal policy. Recommendations and suggestions on specific content is very much welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping me to protect our urban forest.

Chelsea
