A local environmental group is fighting for the life of a stately elm
tree that is threatened by plans to renovate the Centre Block.
While it's undoubtedly an urban white elm, the tree has had much of the
sky to itself and has avoided contracting Dutch Elm Disease during its
long tenure on Parliament Hill.
In recent days, the Greenspace Alliance of Canada's Capital has launched
 * An online petition  http://bit.ly/2SjWqF2
 * A learning event slated for this Sunday

Background on this issue:

You can google "elm tree parliament hill" for recent news coverage.

Next week promises to be crucial, with the group issuing another press
release on Monday and letters to a variety of politicians. It's
possible an opposition member of parliament will raise the issue of the
tree's heritage value in the House of Commons. Stay tuned!
If anyone from the Elm Recovery Project [1]in Ontario is viewing this
message, could you please contact me outside the list serv to chat
about whether you might support the campaign to retain this tree on
Parliament Hill.
