[CANUFNET] Tree roots in sewer lines

I agree with Andrew on this.

We routinely get complaints of tree roots in sewer lines that cause backup into the home. Some are legitimate and same are bogus as a reason to remove the tree.

Our Environmental people who deal with sewer and water are obligated by a council directive to exhaust all options before the more drastic removal is considered. One of the options that they need to consider is pipe bursting and relining from the home to the main which is done from a front access cleanout and does not impact the tree.

Cheers

Maybe I'm under thinking this? But if you have tree roots growing into a sewer line then you by definition have a failed/compromised sewer lateral that will require repair or replacement regardless. That work is going to result in tree roots being cut to facilitate the repair or replacement, bylaw or no bylaw.

Seems a simple case of common sense and discretion on the part of those enforcing the bylaw.
