Celebrating our fathers
Not surprisingly, I always think of my dad on Father’s Day. He was born during the Great Depression, the third of six children. During that time, my grandfather bravely took the family to a remote town in Northern Ontario in the hope of finding work and a better life. For my dad, it was a wondrous world filled with trees and other green spaces, begging to be explored. There he developed a respect for all living things and a love of science.

Plant a tree. Celebrate Dad.

Planting a tree in your dad’s name is a meaningful way of celebrating him and improving the health of your community. Right now, our green spaces are shrinking fast as our cities expand, and this is impacting the health of those around us. Your Father’s Day gift will help grow our green spaces and make our communities healthier.

Spend Father's Day in the forest!

Tree Canada's virtual forest has kept us close to trees, from coast to coast, during these trying times. This Father's Day, why not spend some time outside with your dad among the trees while snapping a couple of pics to contribute to our growing virtual forest? Share your photo on social media by tagging us and using the hashtag #TreeCanadaphoto!

Why our communities need trees?
The past month has seen our communities burst into a state of green. Buds have turned to leaves and the canopy overhead has filled with foliage. Here in Ottawa, we’re fortunate to have many neighbourhood streets lined with majestic trees, and I’m always humbled to witness this seasonal transition. There’s certainly no better time to reflect on the value that trees bring to your community than when you’re sitting beneath one having a picnic!

Atlantic Regional Urban Forest Update
In writing and preparing for this update for May, I realize how much life in the forestry sector has changed over the last two months, and how essential forestry is to Atlantic Canada – with ROYALE® toilet paper made right here in Dieppe, New Brunswick and personal protective equipment now in high demand using pulp for hospital gowns.

However, the forest industry moves on and the value of the resource increases as crews are back in the woods thinning and selection harvesting.
