The Cooling Shade of a Tree
As we take time to unwind during the summer months, many of us head for spaces that offer shelter from the intense sun. Often, that means going to a park, a trail, a cottage, or to your backyard, to find the cooling shade of a tree. We even instinctively walk on the shaded side of a downtown sidewalk to find relief.

Tree Canada is looking for companies, organizations or municipalities interested in planting trees for our National Greening Program (NGP), a program which supports large-scale tree planting projects in five regions across Canada: British Colombia, the Prairies, Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes.

CUFC 2020 Postponed to October 3 to 5, 2022
Due to the organizational and travel constraints related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the difficult decision has been made to postpone the Canadian Urban Forest Conference (CUFC) by two years. The conference In Prince Edward Island will now be held on October 3 to 5, 2022.

Prairie Regional Urban Forest Update

The Prairie region is a geographically large place and a busy place for arborists and urban foresters. We all are dealing with the pandemic, as well as other challenges this year. COVID-19 responses differed slightly from province to province, with Manitoba and Saskatchewan less affected by cases than Alberta.

L’ombre rafraîchissante d’un arbre
Alors que nous prenons le temps de nous détendre durant les mois d’été, nous sommes nombreux à rechercher des espaces qui offrent un abri à la chaleur intense du soleil. Souvent, cela se traduit par une promenade au parc ou sur un sentier de randonnée, un séjour dans un chalet ou un moment dans votre cour afin de profiter de l’ombre rafraîchissante d’un arbre. Même en ville, nous marchons instinctivement du côté du trottoir qui se trouve à l’ombre à la recherche d’un peu de fraîcheur.

Comment les arbres gardent-ils les gens et les collectivités au frais

Nous connaissons présentement des journées de canicule estivale! Les personnes qui vivent près d’un espace vert préfèrent sûrement les passer à l’ombre d’un grand arbre.

Les arbres sont un climatiseur naturel et ceci est encore plus évident dans les centres urbains où résident plus de 80 % des Canadiens.

Nos villes urbaines vivent présentement des chaleurs record. Heureusement que les #arbresnousgardentaufrais en réduisant l’effet des îlots thermiques urbains et nous aident à nous adapter au changement climatique.

La Journée nationale de l’arbre s’en vient! Cette année, elle aura lieu le mercredi 23 septembre 2020. Inscrivez cette date sur votre calendrier!

Par le passé, ce moment de l’année était un temps privilégié pour se rassembler et célébrer avec des événements de plantation communautaire. La situation actuelle causée par la COVID-19 rend cette année très différente. Mais nous pouvons quand même célébrer ensemble … en gardant nos distances!

La CCFU 2020 est retardée jusqu’au 3-5 octobre 2022
Compte tenu des restrictions imposées à l’organisation et aux déplacements par la pandémie de la COVID-19, nous avons pris la difficile décision de retarder la Conférence canadienne sur la forêt urbaine de 2020 de deux ans. La conférence aura maintenant lieu du 3 au 5 octobre 2022 à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard.

Mise à jour sur la foresterie urbaine dans la région des Prairies

La région des Prairies est un vaste territoire géographique où les arboriculteurs et les forestiers urbains ne manquent pas d’activité. Cette année, nous devons tous faire face à la pandémie ainsi qu’à d’autres défis. Les réponses à la COVID-19 varient légèrement d’une province à l’autre, le Manitoba et la Saskatchewan recensant un nombre de cas moins élevé que l’Alberta.
