Our Five Year Vision
We Conserve: A Conservation Challenge


Greetings friends,


It's time to take Ontario's conservation movement to the next level!

We've posted our five <http://www.weconserve.ca/weconserve5yr.pdf>  year
transition strategy for Ontario on the We Conserve website. It maps out
targets that will place Ontario firmly on the path to becoming a conserver
society supported by a resilient conserver economy.

The Conservation Challenge offers a green vision for Ontario that covers
energy efficiency, green power, urban design, green spaces, transportation
alternatives, local economies, green investments, local food systems, and
waste reduction.

We've included challenge targets for Ontario that were developed in
consultation with groups that are at the forefront of providing conservation
solutions to the public. They are achievable, but only if we all work
together as part of a united conservation movement.

Several other points to mention:

1) Although conservation addresses a wide range of environmental priorities,
we've used climate change and the Kyoto Protocol deadline of 2012 as the
primary lense for preparing this strategy.

2) We've focused on individuals and society as the driving force behind
social change. We all created climate change through our lifestyle and
consumer patterns. We can also be the solution.

3) The actions and targets are supported by the programs, products and
services being offered by groups and businesses across Ontario.  This
strategy has legs - several million of them.

4) The change is already happening. Whether it's the trend to smaller cars,
trimming energy bills, eating a better diet, or choosing to live where you
can ride a bike to work, people are already taking action. Our collective
responsibility is to be a catalyst for the positive change that is all
around us.

Let the carbon dinosaurs cry all they want about rising energy prices, those
who conserve can see a better future.
