This one is for the NGOs in the crowd -- all of you looking for a better way
to raise funds and get the job done.

I'm proposing that we come together to plan a number of collaborative
proposals that will help build Ontario's conservation movement and lead to
some measurable changes. In short, how can we best help people become better
conservers?

There are a couple of new funds that have come into play over the last year
-- a welcome influx of new money for the environmental sector. Okay, it's
still not enough, there are constraints on the funds, and there is little
coordination between the funds. But it DOES reflect an awareness of the
growing importance of the voluntary sector in promoting environmental
solutions. It's a start, and let's make the most of it.

An Ontario Conservation Collaborative will be an informal exercise to map
out who wants to do what, and forge innovative partnerships. Most of the
work will still be in crafting propsals to each of the available funds.

I've posted a short background paper on an Ontario Conservation
Collaborative at HYPERLINK "http://www.weconserve.ca/pdf/onconcoll.pdf"
\nwww.weconserve.ca/onconcoll.pdf and you can fill out a HYPERLINK
"http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=2ql7qcoMGwM8ZXImD%2feNxqNKfSoAHSDqiqi
ZYUiEwgA%3d" \nquick survey if you are interested in participating. The
focus is on provincial collaborations, but they can include some of the
bright ideas and applications at the community level.

We'll host a first meeting on September 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at
215 Spadina Ave. Toronto, Suite 120. Teleconferencing will be available.
E-mail me at cco(at)web.ca if you can attend.

Jane’s Walk Hits New York

Jane’s Walk is blossoming. Following on the heels of the launch of the
Jane’s Walk last May, celebrating community and the teachings of Jane
Jacobs, we are pleased to announce that the Center for the Living City in
New York will be running a series of walks on September 29 and 30.

>From their website: As Jane Jacobs noted, people who live or work in the
community know it best and can offer insights and observations that no
professional can. Moreover, “Jane’s Walk” honors her belief that healthy
cities feature walkable, compact, dense and diverse neighborhoods. These
characteristics in turn help knit people together into a strong, connected
and resourceful community.

We are also pleased to say that Jane Farrow has agreed to become the
part-time Director for Jane’s Walk. Jane led one of the walks last May and
is also a producer with CBC Radio. Welcome Jane!

Green Student Fundraising – a new school year.

Green Students completed pilot program this past spring and they are looking
forward to extending their success to the new school year! They have
introduced a line of green products to compliment the CFL light bulbs.
Together with the help of schools, they hope to change the fundraising
industry for the better.

They are always accepting new schools and groups interested in
participating. Visit at HYPERLINK
