I've just finished the first draft of "Collaborating for Conservation:
Building the Voluntary Sector Contribution". I call it a first draft,
because I want to give you all a chance to wade in and contribute.

Remember "Death of Environmentalism" and the subsequent talk of where the
environmental movement is going? Well, this is my answer.

1. The movement is shifting. Everyone knows the environment is a priority,
people are looking for solutions, and its up to us to help. The future of
the movement is in helping the transition to a conserver society.

2. Collaborations are the key. It's the only way we can generate the instant
capacity required to deliver solutions to the public. We're not the "mergers
and acquisitions" type, but we are good at developing partnerships that draw
on each other's skills and resources.

I've identified eight priorities for capacity building (the first three of
which we will be the focus of the Conservation Council's work over the next
year):

1.	public outreach
2.	community action networks
3.	a united fundraising appeal
4.	community centres of excellence
5.	membership-based capacity
6.	multi-lingual and multi-cultural capacity
7.	co-marketing for schools
8.	co-marketing for homes

I then look at ten priority solutions, each one in need of a collaborative
approach:

1.	save energy
2.	use green power
3.	help nature
4.	save water
5.	drive less
6.	live local
7.	eat local
8.	buy green
9.	waste less
10.	prevent pollution

Let me know what you think -- post a comment or send an e-mail. And, more
importantly, start collaborating!
