1) Forwarded Message: Funding Opportunity for community and environmental
groups for Community Conservation Fairs. (see below)

Here’s a quick opportunity from the Ministry of Energy for those of you who
run community events -- $5,000 for a community conservation fair. I will
gladly help out with copies of the I Conserve challenge card to distribute
at your event.

2)  Community Go Green Fund

Also, don’t forget that the deadline for the Ministry of Environment
Community Go Green Fund is January 10th

Information is on the Go Green Ontario website, HYPERLINK
"http://www.gogreenontario.ca/cggf.php"http://www.gogreenontario.ca/cggf.php
(although the only link I could find to it was via the main Ministry of
Environment website HYPERLINK
"http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/en/news/2007/120501.php"http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/e
n/news/2007/120501.php). There’s a 33 page guide and seven page application
form.

I haven’t figured this one out completely yet. Grants will be in the
neighbourhood of $100,000 or less, which means there will be about fifteen
to twenty distinct projects approved for this year’s available funding of
$1.6 million. Will this create more coherence, or greater fragmentation in
the conservation movement? It all depends

I suggest, if you are interested in applying, you refer back to the
“Collaborating for Conservation” paper on our website HYPERLINK
"http://www.weconserve.ca/index2.html"www.weconserve.ca/index2.html.  I had
suggested that we needed to develop two types of collaborations – capacity
building and delivering solutions. From that report, here’s what I would
suggest you look at as potential applications for a community-oriented
climate fund:

1.  Building and Testing Capacity

* Developing Community centres of excellence -- integrated outreach
and support programs at the community level.

* NGO communities – how many people can we sign up through our
combined membership and how can we follow-through on a pledge?

*         Multi-lingual and multi-cultural capacity – ways of engaging
Ontario’s diverse communities

*         Co-marketing to schools – combining all the school-oriented
programs

* Co-marketing to homes – developing common approach to homeowner
engagement

2.  Delivering Solutions

*         Energy Conservation

*         Renewable Energy

*         Water and energy conservation

*         Nature and Climate

*         Drive less

*         Urban Villages

*         Eat local

*         Buy Green

*         Buy Local

*         Waste Less

There’s something for everyone here, but as with the Ontario Trillium
Foundation’s Future Fund, the trick is to build collaborations. As in the
past, the Conservation Council will offer our support to any collaboration
that can integrate its proposal into the overall We Conserve campaign.

3)       Fundraiser reminder

And while we are on the subject of money – thank you to all of you who
responded to our donation request. We’ve received $840 in donations over
the past four days. Jeb Brugmann (our past president) no one would object
if I sent you all a reminder
 so here it is

* $22. Match this gift – my blog article HYPERLINK

* Online donations can be made here HYPERLINK

Thanks,

Chris

Subject: Ministry of Energy Invitation to Host Conservation Fairs

Please distribute widely

The Ministry of Energy Community Conservation Initiatives (CCI) fund is
announcing a one-time funding opportunity for community and environmental
groups who undertake the planning and successful delivery of a Community
Conservation Fair prior to March 31, 2008.

The CCI program supports incorporated not-for-profit organizations that
deliver innovative energy conservation initiatives to their local community.
CCI is intended to help raise awareness about energy conservation, engage
energy consumers to undertake conservation actions, and foster long-term
behavioural change toward energy conservation.

The application deadline for the 2008 Conservation Fairs program is January
11, 2008. In general, the maximum CCI contribution available to host a fair
is $5,000. Applicants can apply to deliver multiple fairs but separate
applications must be received for each fair. All fairs supported by the CCI
program must be completed by March 31, 2008.

Application forms and associated documents will be available on the Ministry
of Energy website by end of day Monday December 17th. For more information
about applying to the CCI program and the Conservation Fairs please visit

The CCI program is one of many initiatives of the government of Ontario to
help build a culture of conservation.
