Advance Notice of a Call to Action

Greetings everyone,

Thursday, August 14th is the fifth anniversary of the 2003 blackout.

That's the day Ontario rediscovered conservation, so it's certainly well
worth doing something to celebrate all the good things that happened as a
result of the blackout.

In 2005, Mayor Michael Harding from Woodstock started the first blackout day
challenge - challenging other municipalities to a voluntary blackout day.
This year, the Blackout Day Group has been formed to promote public
involvement in the campaign. So, how about we all pitch in and lend a hand
in promoting a "Power Down for the Blackout" campaign. It's a simple
campaign, but ever so useful in keeping up the public pressure for better
conservation programs and incentives.

With all our contacts and membership lists, I know we can reach everyone in
Ontario with a call to action to Power Down on Thursday August 14th.

I've set up a couple of pages on the We Conserve website and a Survey Monkey
page where people can volunteer to print off and hand out posters to local
stores, restaurants and offices. Please feel free to sign up - I'd like to
seed the site with a number of volunteers before we go "public".

And for community-based groups in particular, if you would like your logo on
the poster, send me your logo and I will send you back a special version of
the poster. It's in black and white, so the copying costs will be nominal.
You just need to find some volunteers to take posters with them when they go
shopping on the weekend prior to August 14th.

I will send around the formal call to action early next week. If you can
pass it on to your contacts (and personalize it if you wish), I'd appreciate
it.

Have a great weekend,

Chris
