Power Down to remember the Blackout

Do you remember the great blackout of August 14th, 2003?  In the midst of
the crisis, Ontarians watched the stars, held blackout parties to empty
their freezers, and helped those in need.  As a province, Ontario
rediscovered the importance of conservation.

 

These are things worth celebrating.

 

The Conservation Council of Ontario, the Blackout Day Group, and many others
need your help to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the 2003 blackout by
"Powering Down" for the day.  You don't have to go without power, just aim
to use at least 20% less power than on a normal day.  Keep the essential
stuff running, and turn off the things you don't need for the day.

 

*	individuals: Power Down for the day and celebrate conservation
*	stores and restaurants: Power Down for the day and offer Blackout
Day specials
*	offices: Power Down and turn off unnecessary equipment
*	municipalities:  join the Mayor's Blackout Challenge

Sign up as an individual, business, group, or municipality.  Check out ideas
for blackout parties and other projects.

Print out a poster and check out our suggestions for blackout specials.

 

Volunteers needed www.weconserve.ca/blackout/  

Help spread the word.  We need volunteers to distribute posters to stores,
restaurants and offices in your neighbourhood.  Sign up, or see if anyone is
distributing posters in your area.
