Gearing up for 2010
"a benchmark year on the road to 2050" 

All the climate change work these days is pointing to the need for an 80%
reduction in climate gases by 2050 - or else.

If you haven't seen it already, I recommend you go see "The Age of
<http://www.ageofstupid.net/screenings/country/Canada/>  Stupid".  Sure, it
hits you over the head with the climate sledgehammer - but it is very well
done.  My favourite part is where the NIMBYists of Bedford, England,
successfully kill a local wind farm and then find themselves waist deep in
flood water the next year.  Not cause and effect, but poetic justice
perhaps.  Nice to know there is a Transition Bedford
<http://www.transitionbedford.org/>  initiative as part of the very cool
Transition <http://www.transitiontowns.org/>  Towns initiative. 

For our part, at the Conservation Council of Ontario (CCO), we want to see
how 2010 shapes up as a benchmark year for the transition to a conserver
society.  We figure we will be a conserver society by 2050 - the only
question is whether we do it by design or by disaster; by choice or by
crisis.  2010 is a great year to take stock, to challenge ourselves, and to
promote the tools of change.

We can tackle 2010 as a CCO initiative (we have some great programs for
individual action, community organizing, business leadership and overall
coordination), but I also want to know who else is thinking of a 2010
campaign.  And more importantly, can we all the pieces together: the call to
action, the individual commitment, and the policy shift?

The Great Green Directory:
Design Challenge


"Connect People to Solutions" 

Calling web designers - we have a challenge for you.  

We want you to design the Great Green Directory.

It has to allow solution providers (groups, businesses, and governments)
with their own page that they can maintain and update.

It has to have a simple user interface - allowing people to say "I live
here. I need help with this. Show me products, services, programs, and/or
incentives."
