MEDIA HEIST BLANKETS CITY WITH "SPECIAL EDITION" NEW YORK POST
Tabloid Tells Truth About Climate Change and How It Will Affect City,
World

Early this morning, nearly a million New Yorkers were stunned by the
appearance of a "special edition" New York Post blaring headlines
that their city could face deadly heat waves, extreme flooding, and
other lethal effects of global warming within the next few decades.
The most alarming thing about it: the news came from an official City
report.

Distributed by over 2000 volunteers throughout New York City, the
paper has been created by The Yes Men and a coalition of activists as
a wake-up call to action on climate change. Although the 32-page New
York Post is a fake, everything in it is 100% true, with all facts
carefully checked by a team of editors and climate change experts.

Wake up, Freak out, Get a Grip!

This animated film by Leo Murray shows that we are ‘'dangerously
close to the tipping point in the world’s climate system;" this is
the point of no return, after which truly catastrophic changes become
inevitable.

Canada should put oil sands on hold: IPCC Cheif

Canada should be doing much more to tackle climate change, and
consider closing down the oilsands projects in northern Alberta, the
head of an international scientific panel on climate change said Monday.

“In the last couple of years, I’m afraid, Canada has not been seen as
sitting at the table,” Mr. Pachauri said in an interview in Montreal
on Monday. “I think Canada should be doing much more.”

Pachauri, who accepted the 2007 Nobel Prize along with former U.S.
vice-president Al Gore for their work on climate change, pointed to
Germany and Japan as examples of countries that have set aggressive
emissions targets and embraced renewable energy.

Canada, the laggard

At about 23 tonnes, Canada's per-capita greenhouse-gas emissions are
among the worst in the world. We have farther to go than most, and
are getting a late start.

This country risks becoming an international pariah with an obsolete
economy.

Ten Swine Flu Lies Told by the Mainstream Media

Canada will not call for truce in Afghanistan during the Olympics

The Globe and Mail reports that, "The UN has traditionally passed an
Olympic Truce resolution before each Summer and Winter Games since
the early 1990s, echoing the practice of the ancient Greeks, who,
according to legend, put aside their weapons every four years to
compete peacefully at the Olympic Games of yore. The country where
the Games will be staged routinely introduces the resolution."

It does not appear that Canada will even take any initiative to ease
hostilities in Afghanistan during the Olympic Games.

The dump is dead
Celebrate the activist victory!

"After 25 years of studies, delays, meetings and protests, Site 41
was laid to rest on Tuesday. Simcoe County councillors passed a
motion yesterday that will see construction and all future
development at the North Simcoe Landfill Site discontinued. 'Site 41
will no longer be constructed as a landfill site,' Simcoe County
Warden Tony Guergis said after the motion passed."

read at http://www.canadians.org/media/water/2009/22-Sept-09.html.

Bill C-311: The Climate Change Accountability Act is being debated in
Canada this Tuesday! We need a flurry of emails sent to the Federal
Environment Committee to show that we want the Canadian government to
have a just and science-based plan going to the UN in Copenhagen!
Pass it on to everyone you know!

Lights Out!

We want to save migrating birds from injury and death.

  You can help too-

- turn off all unnecessary lights at night

- close your curtains or blinds

- and use task lighting when working at night

Why?

Have you noticed?
Fall is here, and thousands of birds are making their way south to
their wintertime homes. They fly right past our building to head out
over Lake Ontario.

Unfortunately thousands of these birds never make it past Toronto!

  The problem is……
As the birds fly at night, they are attracted to the city lights.
They continue into the downtown core where thousands of birds are
killed every season by colliding with buildings. They are
disoriented and confused…to death!

Now be part of the solution.

Antidepressants in pregnancy up heart defect risk

If you take antidepressants such as fluoxetine (marketed as Prozac)
early in your pregnancy, you may be doubling the risk
that your newborn will be born with a heart defect, according to a
new study.

SSRI: 100-500% Increased Risk of Heart Birth Defects If Taken In
Early Pregnancy

ANY YOUNG WOMAN WHO INTENDS TO HAVE A FAMILY SHOULD BE WARNED OF THIS
POSSIBILITY OF SERIOUS LIFE THREATING BIRTH DEFECTS IN HER OFFSPRING
BEFORE EVER BEING STARTED ON AN SSRI ANTIDEPRESSANT!! Marketing these
drugs to this age group should be considered criminal when you look
at what this study shows to be the risks to the children born to
these mothers.

The Push to Prescribe:
Women and Canadian Drug Policy

Women and Health Protection have recently published a book on women
and pharmaceuticals.

If you’re going to read any book about women and pharmaceuticals this
year, this is the one. The key strength of this book is the breadth
of material, with an approach that marries evidence with social and
political values. Written by some of Canada’s experts in this field,
the essays in this book will help women develop their own levels of
healthy skepticism and help them make rational and knowledgeable
prescription drug use the norm, not the exception.

PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists,
activists, and citizens independently but simultaneously temporarily
transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary
public parks.

Anyone can participate in PARK(ing) Day, though it is strictly a non-
commercial project, intended to promote creativity, civic engagement,
critical thinking, unscripted social interactions, generosity and play.
